No AI companion can guarantee a safe or accurate response in every situation. Useful safeguards include clear data handling, content checks, controls you can understand and honest limits. Xiaoyu is companionship, not therapy or emergency support. Here is what to check before sharing something personal.
Xiaoyu sends conversation content and relevant context to the AI provider or model channel used for your request. Account records have retention limits. Service improvement is enabled by default and can be turned off in privacy settings; while enabled, humans may review account-unlinked copies with automated masking. This reduces identification risk but does not guarantee anonymity. Avoid unnecessary identifying details.
User-created characters, backgrounds and openings must pass content-safety checks. Prohibited material includes self-harm encouragement, sexual content involving minors, non-consensual sexual harm, dangerous drug instructions and violence or criminal solicitation. A rejected generation is a failed turn with an option to edit or retry, rather than replacement character dialogue. Automated checks can still make mistakes.
You can manage supported saved memories and delete your account or request data deletion. Retained conversation history, long-term memory and the model’s current context are different things: keeping a record does not mean every reply recalls all of it. Review the privacy policy for retention and the service-improvement setting before treating the chat as a private journal.
Xiaoyu may suggest seeking professional or emergency support, but it does not transfer you to a human operator, monitor your surroundings or call emergency services for you. It works from what you submit, which may include text or images, and can misunderstand it. If you need immediate real-world help, contact it directly; AI companionship is not a crisis service.
Do not assume complete confidentiality or anonymity. Providers process requests, retained records have limits, and service-improvement review depends on your privacy setting. Read the privacy policy before sharing sensitive details.
Yes. Turn off “Allow use to improve the service” in privacy settings to stop future inclusion in the review queue. This does not stop the provider processing needed to generate the replies you request.
Yes. User-created characters, settings and openings must pass the safety filter. A rejection can be edited or retried within the same safety rules; the rules are not relaxed for playability.
Xiaoyu is an emotional companion, not a replacement for professional care. If you are in crisis, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
